NYC 2024 Summer Highlights

New York City

August 21, 2024

If you haven’t already checked out my Hudson Valley blog post, definitely start there! I spent a lot of time upstate these last few months since it’s been reaching sky high temperatures in Manhattan. This post will be a little recap on some of the things I did, ate or what I remembered to take photos of. Honestly, not being on social media unintentionally slowed the amount of pictures I take, which is a total change of pace for me. Often I forget and Christian will have to remind me! If you want read more about why I went offline, check out my Pulling the Plug on Social Media blog post.

Okay, let’s get into it! It’s been a pretty quiet summer. I’ve been dealing with a lot of chronic pain, so not making any plans has been the go-to plan. I’ve been leaning more into how my body feels- the old me would say that I have a lack of motivation, but the new me says I’m making progress & actually healing. The city has been hot, like 95 degrees but feeling like mid-100s kind of hot. Walking outside is like navigating through a sauna, some days I’ll leave my apartment & my glasses instantly fog up. It’s the kind of weather you have to test the sidewalk before walking your pets. Ick. So naturally I reserve being outside for the early morning hours, where I’ll walk along the Hudson River or do errands like laundry, groceries, etc before my work day begins. To those of you sitting outside eating lunch at 1PM, I just don’t get it. Balancing on top of my A/C while sending emails is how I function. Is it fall yet?

—SUMMER IN NYC—

SAN SABINO 📍West Village

Recently we tried a newer restaurant in the village, it has a cheery yellow interior, beautifully presented dishes & mocktails that pack a fruity punch! San Sabino is the sister restaurant to Don Angie (my favorite restaurant in the city) which is right next door. The menu is packed with zesty dishes from pastas to seafood, while also catering to gluten allergies which is always a top concern for me! Dairy on the other hand was a bit trickier but we navigated things just fine. I tried the Falso Spritz mocktail, it was so delicious I ordered two. This is such a cute place to get some drinks & split some dishes with friends, which is exactly what we did! Check out the full menu here.

GREENWICH LETTERPRESS 📍West Village

I love this charming stationery store! I find myself there at least once a month to buy cards, collect thematic stickers for scrapbooking or just to browse. Chances are if you’re visiting me, I’m taking you here. The sticker rolls in the back corner of the store are my favorite, they have the felted & puffy kinds I used to treasure when I was younger. The checkout experience reminds me of the old school Sanrio stores- they package everything super cute in stripe paper bags, adding a bright apple sticker to the outside to seal the goods.

HUDSON RIVER 📍West Village + Chelsea

I spend a ridiculous amount of time walking along the Hudson River most mornings. It’s the way I center myself through exercise, listen to podcasts & take in the views. I normally start at Hudson River Park and make my way up to the Little Island which is right across the street from Chelsea Market. Sometimes if it’s not too crowded, I’ll pop in to get an iced coffee and continue my walk down to the pier again. Truly a slice of serenity in downtown!

CENTRAL PARK 📍Upper West Side

Many of my doctor appointments are uptown and seem to be located around Central Park whether it’s from the east or west ends. On my way home, I try to make it a point to cut through the park as opposed to walking along busy avenues. If you haven’t noticed by now, I’m constantly seeking silence & peace in one of the noisiest cities on earth, which is quite the uphill battle lol. A glutton for punishment as they say. However the cash-only fresh fruit carts always hit different when you’re 10,000 steps in. I highly recommend this combo!

THE EATS 📍Soho, West Village + Tribeca

I can’t tell you how many times we’ve eaten at a restaurant, left, and I’m like shoot, I should have taken a photo, that was so good. So this is just a round up of those rare instances I remembered! Hopefully now that I’m in a better groove with the blog, it should trigger some kind of photo-taking signal in my brain, but we’ll see! Since we live in NYC full-time, we actually cook about 80-90% of our own meals and reserve going out for catching up with friends or getting a sweet treat on occasion. Though I have to admit, it’s really hard not to spend money here.

And since I didn’t have a blog during spring, enjoy some blooms from my camera roll!
