Having been in the social media & brand photography space for over 10+ years, I learned that it’s not the expensive equipment that sets you apart, it’s your creativity. All you need is a smartphone to get started. While I do have a robust list of product recommendations below, remember to always start small. Layer in one piece of gear at a time and build on this as your business grows. Most of the time, if you visit your local camera store, you can rent cameras to test them out & see if you like them. And don’t be afraid to buy a camera refurbished. I got my digital camera at a fraction of the cost since I bought it used.
If you’re looking to become a content creator full-time (vs. just for fun), I highly recommend investing in something you own like a website. Eventually you’ll want to secure a domain & choose a hosting platform like Squarespace or Showit to begin to market yourself, services & portfolio. Owning a website can set the foundation for so many future endeavors like selling products, blogging & more.
